As the Ministry of Culture explained in a statement this Friday, the head 'is in good condition' and is the first head of sculpture to appear at the site associated with the stratigraphy.

Isabel Rodà de Llanza, professor of the Department of Sciences of Antiquity and of the Middle Ages at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), will be in charge of studying the find to determining its origin, date and identification, although it has been suggested that it could represent 'a divinity linked to the hot springs'.

The discovery, made in the framework of the redevelopment of the Plaça de la Font de Lleó, was made together with that of a small Roman-era pool beneath the plaza, near the Thermalia Museum.

In total four bathing pools have been unearthed, among which there is one 13 metres long, considered one of the largest in Catalonia and the entire Iberian peninsula.

The excavations, under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and financed by the Vallesano council, are scheduled to be completed in June and will allow a glimpse of what the thermal facilities were like 2000 years ago.
