Ancient fortification wall unearthed in Valletta ditch
Remains of an ancient wall which once formed part of Valletta's landward fortifications have been unearthed during works in the ditch below city gate.
Further archaeological investigations are being carried out by the Superintendence of National Heritage. The remains will be protected and kept accessible.
The ministry said this find was unexpected. The remains could possibly have been a modification of original plans for the fortifications, added over time.
