Bithia was founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC and survived well into the late Roman period.

The site itself was discovered in the 1920's when some ruins and its necropolis were revealed following heavy storms.

The materials from the recently discovered tomb were made available to the Superintendent who will examine them for a more precise dating.
