Italy's Pompeii restoration moves ahead
|Intervention in Regio VII area, road network made accessible |
The intervention concerns 60,000 sqm in the Regio VII area of the ancient commercial town destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
The House of Queen Caroline, the House of the Wild Boar and the Botanic gardens and adjacent building are among the restored structures to open to the public for the first time.
The network of streets has also been made completely accessible.
The work has largely involved the walls, frescoes and mosaics, in addition to roads and pavements, gates and roofing.
Every intervention has been carried out in such a way as to be instantly recognisable, reversible and compatible with the archeological context.
