An archaeologist said the remains, found in the Lapouei hill, belong to a man 30 to 35 years of age.

Norouz Rajabi, leader of the excavation team in that area, told Iranian news sources on Wednesday that the skeleton, and in particular the way it was buried provided valuable information of the area's history.

Research on the man's diet and what, if any diseases he suffered from, will be carried out in future studies, said Rajabi.

A village existing in the area goes back to 3,300 to 3,700 BC, he said. Lapouei hill is located 20 km north of Shiraz and 25 km south of Persepolis.

Persepolis literally meaning 'city of Persians' was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Empire.
