The project is being carried out by the department of archaeology of Anatolia University.
Speaking to Today's Zaman regarding to the ongoing restoration at the temple, Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister Abdurrahman Arıcı said they are working to preserve the temple. Stating that they plan to prevent corrosion to the temple's columns, Arıcı further added that the historic temple remains standing despite its age thanks to such regular protective projects.
The project is being led by Assistant Professor Hüseyin Alanyalı and his wife, Assistant Professor Feriştah Alanyalı, who also launched a landscaping project around the restored sites in Side -- the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Tyche, the Temple of Dionysus, the Temple of Athena and a basilica -- last year. Professor Hüseyin Alanyalı told Today's Zaman that the plan is put a stop to the erosion as soon as possible.
German sculptor Dietmar Frieze, who has been living in the seaside town of Side for the last 50 years, told Today's Zaman that he appreciates the recent restoration project that has been launched by the ministry, saying that it was essential to conduct such a project for the temple as it was at great risk. Stating that the Temple of Apollo is one of the symbols of Turkish tourism, Frieze added that he was personally involved in a restoration project of the temple 35 years ago.
